Winning submissions will be announced on March 30, 2015

Thank you to all who submitted your work to us. We received many engaging screenplays and it was difficult to narrow it down to ten. If you are not on this list, please don't be dismayed. Writing a screenplay is a daunting task. Besides the hours, the anguish, agony and ecstasy, there is the fact that you are putting yourself out there in the world for all to see. You are doing something many would be afraid to do and we applaud all of you for doing it.

Here are some of the traps we see a lot of screenplays fall into:

Cliche dialogue

Mountains of description, especially at the beginning of the screenplay

Telling us, not showing us

Too much exposition in the dialogue

Cliche descriptions of an “other” type of person, For example, Old Lady.

Cliche descriptions and dialogue for Native Americans as if Native people aren't actual humans

Writing about subjects that are not sufficiently researched

Keep working, keep writing, keep rewriting, brave people. And thank you again.
