Notes will be sent to all finalists on or before June 1, 2016.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2016 FINALISTS
Please note that winners will be announced on April 20th, not on the 15th as originally scheduled.
If your screenplay was not chosen, we encourage you to keep writing and rewriting, and to get as much feedback as possible. There were many instances where the judges felt a screenplay was very good, but needed some work to make it stand out.
Pitfalls to watch out for:
Cliche and/or unrealistic dialogue -- read and have others read your script.
Lack of inner monologue - rarely do we humans say what we are thinking or feeling -- contrasting the inner monologue, the back story, with the dialogue is part of what makes a film dynamic. Being too literal is one of the biggest pitfalls in screenwriting.
Paragraphs of description - descriptions should be brief, visual, a few lines, not paragraphs.
Overall, the judges want to be able to see and feel a movie when they read.
Thank you all so very much for your submissions. They were especially strong this year. It was our privilege to read your work!
